How to Add the Contents Page for the Mock-up:

1.  Open the previous issue's contents page in FP Editor (i.e., to do a Mock-up for May/June, open March/April's contents page </ts/contents/2000-03.htm>).

2.  IGNORE everything other than the actual paragraphs beginning with the vision article and ending with the letters to the editor. Everything above and below this point should stay exactly the same every month.

3.  Cut the paragraphs describing the contents of the old issue. Add a list of the articles that have so far been chosen for the upcoming issue, with each article labeled according to its appropriate section, e.g. "Commentary, Stephen Downes, 'Nine Rules for Good Technology.'"

4.  When you are done, choose "Save As" and make sure that you are in the "Contents" directory; then save the page under the year and month you are working on (i.e., May would be 1999-05.asp). Please be sure NOT to "save" the file! If you choose "SAVE," you will write over the current month's issue!

5.  Check your work in IE and Netscape.

6.  Email the editor and include the new URL in your message.

NOTE: Refer to the Procedures Manual for more detailed directions.

How to Post an Article to the Mock-up:

Example: Your task is to add a new "Commentary" article to the mock-up.  You should follow this process for any other type of article you are posting to the mock-up.

1. In FP Editor, open the "Commentary" file in the TS folder.

2.  Open the previous issue's article (i.e., to do a mock-up for May/June, open March/April's commentary page </ts/commentary/2000-03.htm>).

3.  IGNORE everything other than the actual text of the article.  Generally, you may delete from below the issue heading (i.e. MAY/JUNE) to the horizontal line with the "x" at the end.  The heading and the horizontal line must not be deleted!

4.  Cut the text of the old article and paste in the text of the new article.

5.  When you are done, choose "Save As" and make sure that you are in the "Commentary" directory (or whichever is appropriate); then save the page under the year and month you are working on (i.e., May would be 2000-05.asp). Please be sure NOT to "save" the file! If you choose "SAVE," you will write over the current month's issue!

6.  If these is already a commentary article for this issue, name the second article "year-montha" (i.e. 2000-05a.asp).

7.  Check your work in IE and Netscape.

8.  Email the editor and include the new URL in your message.

NOTE:  Refer to the Procedures Manual for more detailed directions.

Form Letters

Spotlight site, first step letter: Use this letter when we first get the article from the author and post it to our site. Send the letter to Dr Morrison first, giving him the proper email address and name of the webmaster. He will forward the letter to the webmaster.

Spotlight site, second step letter: Use this letter once the article has been "published." Suggest that the webmaster include the Spotlight logo on his/her site. Make sure that you attach a copy of the logo to the letter; do not give out the URL where the logo is located. When you receive this permission, print it out and file it with the Letter of Agreement for that article. Again, send the letter to Dr Morrison first, and let him contact the webmaster directly.
